The Independent Academic Commons (“the Commons”) is a global community dedicated to openness, inclusivity, and collaboration. This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behavior expected from all members. It ensures that the Commons remains a safe, respectful, and productive environment for dialogue, research, and knowledge sharing.

2. Guiding Principles

The Code of Conduct is grounded in the Commons’ core values:

3. Expected Behavior

All members and users must:

4. Unacceptable Behavior

The following are strictly prohibited:

• Harassment, discrimination, or abuse of any kind.
• Offensive comments related to race, gender, sexuality, religion, or professional background.
• Plagiarism, misrepresentation of research, or falsification of data.
• Commercial promotion, political campaigning, or dissemination of misinformation.
• Unauthorized sharing of personal or sensitive information.
• Disruption of forums, events, or collaborative projects.

5. Content Standards

• Contributions must be accurate, verifiable, and ethically sourced.
• Datasets must comply with the Commons’ Data Management Policy.
• Publications and resources must respect intellectual property rights.
• Members must provide clear metadata and documentation for shared materials.

6. Enforcement

• Moderation: The Commons reserves the right to monitor discussions and remove content that violates this Code.
• Disciplinary Action: Violations may result in warnings, suspension, or termination of membership.
• Appeals: Members may appeal enforcement decisions through the Governance framework.
• Transparency: Enforcement actions will be documented and reported to ensure accountability.

7. Reporting

• Members who witness or experience violations are encouraged to report them through the official support channel.
• Reports will be handled confidentially and investigated promptly.
• Retaliation against individuals who report misconduct will not be tolerated.

8. Commitment

By joining and/or using the Commons, members and users agree to uphold this Code of Conduct and contribute to a community built on respect, inclusivity, and integrity. Violations undermine the mission of the Commons and will be addressed with seriousness and fairness.
