Hed-Core Academic Commons Community Guidelines

Introduction

The Hed-Core Academic Commons is a collaborative environment where faculty, policymakers, civil servants, NGOs, professional bodies, and independent scholars come together to share knowledge, engage in dialogue, and co‑create solutions. To maintain a safe, inclusive, and productive community, all members are expected to follow these guidelines.

1. Respectful Engagement

• Treat all members with courtesy and professionalism.
• Debate ideas, not individuals—criticism must remain constructive.
• Avoid inflammatory language, personal attacks, or discriminatory remarks.

2. Inclusivity and Diversity

• Value contributions from diverse disciplines, cultures, and perspectives.
• Ensure discussions are accessible and welcoming to all members.
• Recognize that different sectors (academia, government, NGOs, professional bodies) bring unique insights.

3. Intellectual Integrity

• Cite sources accurately and acknowledge contributions.
• Do not plagiarize or misrepresent research findings.
• Share evidence responsibly, ensuring accuracy and transparency.

4. Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing

• Use forums, working groups, and repositories to build collective knowledge.
• Share resources openly, unless restricted by licensing or confidentiality.
• Respect intellectual property rights while promoting open access.

5. Responsible Use of the Commons

• Do not use the platform for commercial promotion, political campaigning, or misinformation.
• Avoid uploading harmful, unlawful, or misleading content.
• Ensure datasets and resources comply with ethical standards and data protection laws.

6. Zero Tolerance for Harassment

• Harassment, discrimination, or abuse of any kind will not be tolerated.
• This includes offensive comments related to race, gender, sexuality, religion, or professional background.
• Violations may result in suspension or termination of membership.

7. Privacy and Confidentiality

• Respect the privacy of fellow members.
• Do not share personal information without consent.
• Handle sensitive data responsibly, following the Commons’ Data Management Policy.

8. Accessibility and Participation

• Ensure contributions are accessible to all members, including those using assistive technologies.
• Use clear language and avoid unnecessary jargon.
• Encourage participation from members across different sectors and regions.

9. Enforcement

• The Commons reserves the right to moderate discussions and remove content that violates these guidelines.
• Repeated or serious violations may result in suspension or termination of membership.
• Appeals can be made through the Governance & Policies framework.

10. Commitment

By joining the Independent Academic Commons, members agree to uphold these guidelines and contribute to a community built on respect, inclusivity, integrity, and collaboration.
